Richard has been a Tax Professional working with individuals, families, and small businesses in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area since 2016. In 2019, after spending 3 years working for a big tax preparation chain, Richard founded ‘We Do Taxes’. We Do Taxes is a fully virtual tax practice built for the fast-paced information age. Richard focuses on putting his clients’ minds at ease by providing support and guidance in the way that they need.
Originally from the Caribbean, Richard migrated to the United States in 2012 where he completed his MBA in Human Resources Management. With his MBA, Richard has gained experience working for several small businesses in the automotive, entertainment, healthcare and fitness industries. Richard’s interest in becoming a tax professional stemmed from his desire to assist his peers and employers, who had limited knowledge about tax regulations, as they made major life decisions that had major tax implications.
The first year Richard was in the United States he was told: “You don’t mess with the IRS…you have to file your taxes”. Not knowing anything about US taxes, or where to go for guidance before the tax season ended, Richard ended up doing his taxes on his own online but with several mistakes, a lot of frustration, confusion and money wasted. Over the next few years, Richard learned that most immigrants and many American’s faced this exact challenge every year. It was at this point that Richard made the decision to be a source of knowledge and guidance for the members of his community. In the words of Sir Francis Bacon, “knowledge itself is power”, but Richard believes the challenge is first knowing where to look for it. We Do Taxes stives to be that source. Richard took his first tax class over 6 years ago and has not looked back as he continues to expand his knowledge every year.
Outside of the tax season, Richard enjoys staying active and has a passion for health & wellness. He can be found spending time with his son, visiting with his family back home, broadening his knowledge across all disciplines, or training in Capoeira.
